Something you know, plus something you have.
Multi-factor authentication (MFA), 2-factor or 2-step authentication, is an electronic authentication method that provides CSPD access to IT services (E.g. websites, applications.).
MFA requires to complete more than one different verification factors to confirm your identity. The factors include something you know - e.g. a password, something you have - your device, and who you are - your biometrics such as a fingerprint, eye retina or face.
MFA plays an essential role in securing your CSPD account. Setting up MFA provides an additional layer of protection for your account. CSPD supports the following methods (or factors) for MFA:
Okta Verify Application pop-ups
Okta Verify Authentication code - This does not require Internet/Wi-Fi and is easily accessible
Hardware tokens (YubiKeys)
(SMS) Text Message
The SMS method is not recommended due to its weak security.
The Okta Verify app does not collect your information, it only sends notifications to your device. No activities or data are uploaded from your device.
Okta is an identity authentication service that allows a person to access an application or service securely.
CSPD uses Okta to allow for Single Sign-On (SSO) to stop staff and students from creating an account for every application they use. This significantly reduces the time taken to access the resources you use in day-to-day activities, whilst protecting you from having your details exposed in a data breach.
Download Okta Verify for your device and follow the Setup Guide to set up MFA.
To use Okta Verify application, your device needs to meet the following requirements:
Apple iOS devices need to be iOS 16.0 or later.
Android Devices need to be at least Android 9.0 or later (With access to the Google Play Store)
Internet connection for setup of the application.
If your device cannot support the above requirements, email the Enterprise Service Desk (esd@parra.catholic.edu.au) to discuss alternatives.
